It was not freezing that much, neither had the sun barely risen like Tomoko had expected. Well of course, she woke up and went to school at almost the same  hours. But somehow being up and out early in a Saturday morning felt like a whole different place in a parallel universe.

It's been a few times she had stayed up till dawn this year and prior. Always came with that feeling of dread when hearing the morning birds hassle and the first weak rays of light sneak through her shutters. It meant she had wasted another full night gaming or marathoning an anime.

Not that she really cared about her sleeping schedule but the thing was, no matter how much later she'd wake up afterwards, she would feel tired the whole day, plus the black rings under her eyes would get painted darker anew and she'd probably miss all the new
releases on tv making her feel an outsider even in the blogging community.

Well true, Tomoko didn't own a blog of her own, nor did she had the guts to review and criticize anything online but she did follow a few. Well..stalk would be more accurate. No official blog made her a non-official follower. And a loser loner. Again!

Tomoko sank her head a bit and pulled the edge of her large, grey hat lower. She really wanted to put on her headphones and get lost in her goddamn opening and ending anime
music instead of standing there like an idiot.

A couple of bitches in groups chatting way too loud and even a disgustingly snuggly brat with an older guy had passed by already. Seriously what was up with that last couple. He was at least 3 years older than her. Wasn't this pedophilia? And why the hell would he not go pedophilic on her? I can make a good loli why not? I'm the super innocent virgin here! No experience whatsoever.

Anyways that still didn't solve her inability to put her headphones on. It would be really nice but she would also definitely miss Imae-san when she arrived. And Tomoko was nervous enough as it was. An awkward first hello by her senpai nudging  her shoulder to get her attention would be disastrous.

And Imae would definitely think she gave 0 fucks about this date..erm meeting. Which wasn't true at all. This was huge! It was really the first time a student from her school had asked to hang out. Like way out. Outside class and school and activities and in a freaking cafe. That's how it starts. That's how you become popular! Even though Tomoko totally didn't care about that anymore sure!

"Good morning Kuroki-san!"

Tomoko broke into a jolt as if electricity had just ran through her veins.

A weird sound, something between a high pitched yelp the deepest gasp escaped her lips ultimately canceling each other out and making her sound like some sort of chocking bird.
With the freakiest puppet smile and what she was absolutely sure that were cracking noises accompanying her neck's movements she turned towards the other girl.

"G-g-good m-morning I-imae-sa-san" Tomoko managed to greet.

The cool and collected image of the cute high school girl answering in confidence that she had built for herself shattered once more inside her head. How pathetic! Tomoko felt close to crying. Why does this keep happening?

Imae just smiled blissfully at her. And wasn't she just the cutest today. She had put on a bit of make up with shinny cherry  lip gloss and the faintest hint of smooth green eyeliner which made her black eyes somehow look even more dark and round.

Tomoko couldn't help but focus solely on them for a couple of seconds. Then her attention wandered to the girl's attire. A pinch of jealousy mixed with another fuzzy feeling shot through her heart. What a fashionable girly dress! Imae totally looks like a fancy young lady. I'm way out of the league compared to her.

"Shall we go then? The cafe isn't that far away."

Tomoko nodded.

Maybe I should have wore a dress too? she wondered as they took the first steps away of their meeting spot. Jeans and a plain shirt really doesn't fit this date well huh?
Especially since I'm next to a bitch that knows her fashion. It's just like going out with Yu-chan minus the huge boobs. I'm totally out of place. Fuck I look like a dude now that I think about it. I'm the goddamn man of this relationship!

A bara image with her face on top of a half naked hulk of a body next to a doll Imae popped in Tomoko's head. Huh...something like that right? More silent panicking ensued.

"By the way did I startle you earlier Kuroki-san?" asked the doll Imae and it poofed into the real image of the girl next to Tomoko. Ah wait! That was an actual question out of the fantasy world!

"Uhm.. n-not r-really"

Imae gave her a playful grin. "Hehe but I think I did."

Whoa!  Haven't seen that expression before!

"Uhm.. I..uhm"

"He I'm sorry you looked really spaced out there, I couldn't help myself." said Imae with a soft giggle.

"It was rather rude though, please forgive me" she added right after with her usual gentleness.

"Ah..it-it's fine."

Holy cow did I just get teased? Come to think of it, she's taller than me right? So am I not the man of this thing? Seme is always the taller one in manga right?

"There we are. Told you it wasn't that far."
Tomoko looked up. She'd seen this place when she was coming. Yeah it wasn't far. It wasn't super fancy either like she'd come to fear after seeing Imae's outfit. Normal cafe and all.

"Ok let's go in then."

"Y-yeah."

Imae walked forward and opened the glass door, but Tomoko ended up hesitating for a bit too long and with a soft sound the door closed in her face. It felt more like the loudest crush right in front of her. Gah! Did she just do this on purpose?! Am I being bullied after all? This gotta be some sort of punishment.

She took in deep breath. Ok wait...no, Imae wouldn't do that. I..don't think so? She asked me out, and I got teased, and she's smiling a lot right? This is good no? C'mon you stupid virgin! she urged herself.  Remember that day when you saw her panties? I told myself that day shit didn't matter after all. That you wouldn't care! I've given up on popularity and now here I am going out with a classmate. It's a jinx! Jinx I tell you. Rock Lee was right about that on chunin exams. So let's keep at it.

A new wave of excitement rushed through her chest. I'm out with a classmate! Hell yeah go me! This is great! Then... Oh my God I saw her panties!! I'm out with the girl whose
panties I saw! Damn! I forgot! I totally forgot! What should I do?

Meanwhile Imae oblivious once more was looking around for free tables. They were plenty to go around. Oh! And her favorite spot in the corner and next to the window was free. Great. Then she noticed the absence of her junior. Megumi turned her head back and saw her behind the glass, not having moved in with her and looking at the floor intensely, silently freaking out.

She couldn't tell very well since they weren't touching but was Kuroki-chan shaking as well. The older girl frowned. Oh dear...here we go again with stressing herself out. Poor Kuroki..you really don't need to be so nervous.

She reached back and reopened the door to let her in.

"Kuroki-chan?"

Upon hearing her name, the other's head shot up, eyes wide and face pale.

Panties!!! Screamed Tomoko internally as if Imae could hear her and solve this problem as well.

"Are you coming? There is a lovely spot by the window." And everything is fine, just relax, said her raven eyes silently and reassuringly. She may have been unable to read the panties part in Tomoko's plea, neither did she care that much about it if she was asked after all, but the anxiety was visible.

And Tomoko on her part received the calming message.

"I'm c-coming" she whispered already out of breath and took a step in.

A few moments later they were settling down in their table.
Imae neatly put aside her jacket and bag.
She looked up a bit surprised when Tomoko finished getting comfortable.

"Huh? Aren't you  going to get your hat off?"
Tomoko pressed her legs together under the table and tangled her thumbs nervously unable to meet the other's eyes. A shameful pink blush colored her cheeks. Goddamn it, she knew she should have taken that shower yesterday! Her hair was a mess! Imae is going to think I'm a total hobo.

With much effort she managed a shake her head.
I really suck at this girls out thing. No wonder I'm outclassed by bitches all the time.

"Oh okay, it's fine anyways. I think it's really suits you Kuroki-san."
The newest train of negative thoughts lost it's track in Tomoko's head.

"Y-you really think so?" less mumbling in this sentence.  Nice progress Tomoko!

"Yup. It's stylish and cool"

An honest happy smile blossomed on the younger girl's lips.

"Th-thanks"

I should probably compliment her too right? But oh boy where do I even start? Omg how do
I girl? Please don't fail me brain!

"Y-your d-dress is v-very shojo too. Fluff a-and a-all.."

Aaaah goddamn it!

The stunned silence felt like it lasted forever and then..Imae was laughing.

Well shit, thought Tomoko, catastrophe accomplished as always.

"Goodness Kuroki! That is the weirdest compliment anyone ever gave me." she wiped a tear away "But thank you. So are you into manga?

Tomoko's jaw dropped down. Whoa! Can we really talk about it?

Her mouth was left open while she desperately tried to come up with something to say.
Imae suppressed another giggle at the cute sight in front of and instead offered her junior a gentle smile. She crossed her hands under her chin and leaned a bit forward.

"Well, what have you read?

Everything!!

"Uhm...I..ehm.."

It was still difficult to form a sentence. And holy shit what do I say here?! I can't possible mention the freaky shit, she'll run away!

"To be honest, I never much got into a series" said Imae after allowing a considerate pause. Tomoko felt like she was stubbed with something very sharp. All her enthusiasm turned to cold ice. "But I did read some volumes of sailor moon. I still own those. The art was so beautiful." Just like tuning on a switch again, a warm feeling of hope was back in the little otaku's chest. By no means was this perfect but she had something to talk about.

"I do prefer literature though. Was even thinking of joining the club if my duties as student council president  weren't so time consuming. Some light novels as well maybe.
I've read "The twelve kingdoms". Have you?"

"YES!" hollowed  Tomoki with excitement. She sank her head down immediately afterwards when everyone in the cafe turned towards her curious about the commotion. Goddamn assholes! What are you looking at? Mind your own business.

"Uhm..I mean..I've seen the anime."
She bit her upper lip in frustration.

"Ha-half of it actually" cause it got boring after a while! Aw jeez don't beat me into my own game now! There's tons I know better. Hah yeah! I could show you how awesome my knowledge is!

"Uhm..c-come to think of it how did you find it? It's not the most popular one."
Imae smiled.

"Gift from my mom. I wanted something new to read and well-"

At that moment the waitress came.

"Are you girls ready to order?"

"I'll have a latte please." replied Imae politely.

"And you dear?"

Tomoko stared at silent panic. Fuck! What is a cool, mature coffee to order again? I can't get the same she'll think I'm just copying her! It'll be so pathetic! Oh God what do I do?

"Ah..uhm..do you have a menu?" Wow I'm a genius! Go me! That was  a great save!

"Oh sure. Right over there" and she pointed at it laying right in front of Tomoko. The girl's head hang in defeat. Of course. Damn...severe points down. So uncool! I hate you life!

"Why don't you take a Cappuchino? They make a great one in this shop." suggested Imae with a knowing smile mostly to herself since Tomoko was caught in her own turmoil and wasn't paying attention again.

She was starting to pick up on her juniors madness the more she looked at her. Her own interest was not only subdued but very much peaked at this girl who tried so SO hard with these simple issues. How bizarre and intriguing it was. And it was obvious Kuroki-san needed help. Just look at the way she looked towards her now. Like she was the grand savior of things. Hehe how cute! Imae hoped she hadn't been too cocky about this though..

Nope! These worries were out of place as Tomoko was staring at a literal angle from her perspective.

"S-sure. Yes..C-cappuchino. Th..that."

"Alright" nodded the waitress as she wrote down the order before leaving.

"So as I was saying.." continued Imae casually "It was my birthday and my mom had run out of ideas. I like mythology, she asked for recommendations and there we go. I'm four volumes in. I think I may check out the anime adaptation now that you mentioned it"

"It-it's not the most popular either." murmured Tomoko gradually relaxing from her most recent panic attack.

Imae titled her head to the left. "It really doesn't need to be popular for me to like it."

For some reason Tomoko felt a pleasant nervousness hearing this. She was smiling again.

"Oh speaking of popularity. I forgot to mention but this shop does a lovely cake with caramelized orange. Quite requested by customers. We should give it a taste, it's one of my favorites in town."

"I..I don't know. M-may n-not have enough on me t-to pay."

Basically broke come to think of it. That last Otome game had cost a fortune!

Imae waved it off.

"It's fine, my treat remember? This is a thank you for the times you've helped me."

"A-are you sure?"

"Yep, don't worry about it."

"Ok..th-thank you."

Tomoko was half in daze the whole time that went by afterwards. She knew for a fact her tongue felt less tangled in her mouth the more they talked. Imae was mainly leading the conversation to all sorts of topics leaving little place for her to feel awkward but not ignored either.

If you asked her later though she would not remember most of it. But her shoulders were less stiff and she was able to look her senior in the eye. Cake and hot coffee melted in a delicious combination in her mouth as those gentle black eyes were focused solely on her. Paying attention, listening.

It felt like heaven.
A/N: Ooook. End of chapter 4.

Phew that was bigger than the previous ones and with loooots of re-writes from me. Still not completely happy with it but if I touch it any further it'll break apart! Thank you all for your patience and support. Each fave makes me smile and reviews motivate me to no end!

Writing this chapter I realized besides her kindness Megumi Imae had little character to begin with, so I added some more to her to make things interesting and give me something to work with the pair.

Also apparently what I tried with very specific dates, doesn't seem to work out for me that well after all. For the next update I'll be a bit more vague while still setting a personal deadline to keep me in check. This month is full packed with exams and studying so don't get you hopes up. Story will come back around March. See ya!
